magnificent mail monday!

what's that you say? it's tuesday? well, of course it is. but the magnificent mail happened yesterday. for those of you who may not know, i (ru) love the mail. i love sending mail. i love receiving mail. i just love the sound of the mail slot in our apartment door (why, yes, we still have a little brass mail slot in our apartment door - i love it, too!) being pulled open and the sound of a bundle (even if it is all junk) hitting the floor.

but even better than the general aesthetics of mail delivery is actually getting something you were really looking forward to.

which is what happened monday. to get back on track here!

this is what happened monday:

this marvelous package arrived from erin over at bluebirdbaby. we had bought some pants from her etsy shop for signal for his birthday and we love them. so when we saw that she was doing a shop update, m headed over right away to snatch something up. and voila, here appear the vroom vroom cargo pants! in the package, erin included a bar of green & black's 70% cocoa dark chocolate (the only food ever to make me think i could live as a vegan) and a nice note on the back of a photo. you can see the detailing on the pants and the chocolate and photo in much closer detail below.

and, as if that weren't enough, we also received a package containing the latest in our attempts to move away from plastic containers in our home: our snack sacks!

it's a small stainless steel bowl (actually, a half-pint pet food bowl, according to the label on the bottom!) inside a custom-sewn canvas sack that ties shut with a drawstring. the sack can then attach to a belt-loop or other bag with a carabiner through a loop on the outside. signal's is denim with a gray carabiner; m's is the pink and beige stripe with a red carabiner; and ru's is the blue stripe with a blue carabiner. we have been waiting for them for awhile, but we can't use them yet, because for valentine's day, we are going to stuff each other's snack sacks with all manner of goodies! but after that, watch out snacking!

and that is the end of this week's edition of magnificent monday mail - if we are lucky there will be another installment next week!

There is nothing quite like mail. Really. When I was little I had that book Free Stuff for kids which combines the best of both worlds - mail and free stuff!
