Saturday we headed out to St. Jacobs pretty early in the day to hit their farmer's market, see some animals, and do a little but of shopping at Treadle & Company. While Ru and I had been to St. Jacobs before with my mom, we had gone on a Sunday when the big market is closed. This time we specifically went on Saturday to see the big market, and it was worth it. I think it is going to be our new standard day trip when we have guests from out of town.
We started out by looking around the main market building, taking in all of the great meats and fruits and veggies and breads that were available to purchase. We found white cheese curd (yum!), some delicious cinnamon plum tea, and we picked up some cashew brittle. We had our cooler with us, which was a good thing because we also bought both garlic butter and cinnamon butter from a vendor. Let me tell you that cinnamon butter is just delicious on Pillsbury biscuits. Mmmmmm.
After hitting the main building we went outside so that Signal could see the farm animals. Grandpa made a very astute observation. Signal seems to prefer his animals in two dimensions. There was no way he would get close to the ponies, let alone agree to a pony ride. He didn't want to get close to the chickens, or the sheep and goats. All in all he was pretty timid with the animals. But he sure was darn cute none the less!
After the market we went into town to get my mom's birthday gift at Treadle & Company, show Grandpa the broom maker, take a look at a cool toy store and get some delicious baked goods for the road. Once again we were all pretty pooped by mid-afternoon when we headed back to the GTA, and Signal had a bit of a sleep on the way back. All in all though, we had a great day with Grandma and Grandpa in St. Jacobs.
