toronto zoo

Well, what a long weekend it has been! We ended up doing so many things over the 5 days that Signal's Grandma and Grandpa were in town that we didn't get a single chance to sit down and update the blog. Over the next few days I'm going to try and sit down and upload pictures of all the things we did while they were in town - an outing to the Toronto Zoo, a day trip to St. Jacobs, and an outing to the Ontario Science Centre, not to mention just some time playing around both indoors and out. If I'm lucky I'll get the blog back up to speed by the end of the week. Wish me luck!

Thursday was Grandma and Grandpa's first day in town, and since they had had such a late night the night before what with their flight being canceled, them getting to Toronto past midnight, and then having their hotel room given away, we played it pretty low key. Basically stuck around the house, and had a home cooked supper. Just the sort of thing we all needed to gear up for all of the activities ahead.

Friday was our trip to the Toronto Zoo. We had originally planned to visit African Lion Safari, but to be honest I wasn't looking forward to the idea of being cooped up in a car for a good part of the day. We switched our plans to the zoo not only because it was closer, but also because it would allow us to be out in the fresh air.

We had a really nice day at the zoo. It wasn't too hot, and therefore we didn't feel wilted and crabby during the day. The zoo was very crowded with lots of school classes on end-of-the-year trips, but aside from large groups being gathered around the entrance, the exhibits didn't feel too busy. We quickly determined that Signal didn't care much about the animals. He liked being able to walk around a lot, and only enjoyed looking very briefly at the exhibits. A 5 second glance and he was off again. Good to know, and we'll likely not hit the zoo again until he's older.

I, on the other hand, had an absolutely great time photographing all of the animals we saw. When we got home we looked at my pictures on out TV, and I have to say that I impressed even myself with how well the pictures turned out! So here for your viewing enjoyment are some photos of our day at the zoo.

Siberian tiger.

Grandpa, Ru and Signal examining the bench.

A ride on Mama's shoulders.

Przewalski's horse.

Barbary sheep.

Walking to see more animals.

Sumatran orangutan.

Signal pooped at the end of the day.

Poor kid passed out before we even had a chance to get to the car. And even with all the time we spent at the zoo, we saw less than half the exhibits; the place is huge! We'll have to try a zoo trip again next summer. Perhaps at 2.5 he'll be a little more receptive to the whole idea.

Great pictures! You guys are such a cute family. I love seeing pictures of you all together :) Glad you had fun at the zoo. I wish we had something like that close to us. I think the closest thing is the aquarium in Boston which is a 4 hour drive...
