If you can believe it, Signal is 20 months old today. He is growing up far too fast for my liking, but I am also finding it really interesting to see how he grows and develops into his own person. In honour of his 20-month-iversary, I thought I would share with you some of Signal's current stats, likes, dislikes, and abilities.
Stats: Signal now weighs approximately 30 pounds and is about 35 inches tall. He was up over 30 pounds for a while, but dropped around 4 pounds while he was hospitalized in July. He is wearing size 2T or 3T shirts (because of his long torso) and size 2T pants (although he could still wear an 18-24 if he wasn't so tall.) He wears a size 8 or 8.5 shoe. Signal now has all of his teeth except his two-year molars.
Favourite foods: cheddar cheese, asparagus, green beans, grapes, ground beef.
Least favourite foods: bananas, juice of any kind, french fries, stir-fry.
Favourite TV shows: Yo Gabba Gabba, Word World, The Backyardigans.
Favourite books: Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, Bear's New Friend, One Leaf Rides The Wind.
Favourite toys: cars and trucks, paper and wax crayons, wooden blocks.
Speech: Signal now often speaks in sentences. He asks politely for "More water, please," and is very good at making his wants and needs clearly known. My very favourite phrase at the moment is "I love you, too." How could that not make your heart melt?
Cognitive skills: Signal can now count to 20 (although the numbers between 14 and 19 are sometimes out of order), knows his alphabet in capital letters, and can tell you that his name is spelled "E-Z-R-A" if you ask. He also knows some of his shapes and most of his colours.
Motor skills: His fine motor skills are much better than his gross motor skills. While he cannot throw or catch a ball, he likes to build with Mega Blocks, do puzzles, and draw circles and "trees" (long straight lines.)
Signal remains a difficult sleeper who has yet to sleep through the night. Although our bedtime routine is becoming easier, he still wakes at least three times a night and needs help getting settled back down. He is also a little boy who is very attached to his "sucie" (soother) and "bibi" (blanket.) Signal is showing some potty awareness by telling us when he poops, and he enjoys sitting on his potty. He has not, however, showed any desire to actually pee on the potty. He is still riding rear-facing in his car seat and will remain that way until he reaches the 35 pound rear-facing weight limit on his seat. Signal is a great traveler and deals with car trips, even extended ones, very well.
I can't believe how much he has grown in the short time he has been around. Signal continues to amaze, annoy, and amuse Ru and I each and every day. His 2nd birthday suddenly seems to close. We love you, little man!
