lions and tigers and red river hogs! oh my!

so monday was a holiday here. we decided it would be a good day to take signal to the zoo for the first time this year. we went last summer when my parents were in town, and signal was not very interested in the animals, though he did love all the running around. this time, though, it was all about the animals, baby!

red river hogs!

oh! (did you know a giraffe could hold his legs like that?!)

my! (lovely loving little golden lion tamarins!)

when we got home monday afternoon, we asked e when he wanted to go back to the zoo again, he said "tomorrow!" of course, we did not go today, but we did get a season pass, so we will be going back soon (and frequently)! more highlights:

signal and mommy

the rare and wild canada gosling!

signal and mama

the rare domestic canadian goat!

the rare domesticated (for now) canadian toddler
(with his tube of plastic animals, or "my new present" as he calls it)

if you ask signal what his favourite animals he saw at the zoo were, he will tell you "the hyena, the rhino and the elephant." if you ask either m or myself what three animals we did not see at the zoo, we will tell you "the hyena, the rhino and the elephant." m says she is not sure what trip he went on, but he seemed to have a good time!

but signal's absolute favourite animal from our trip to the zoo was the kakoon. what's a kakoon you ask? that's what i asked too. and signal tells me "it is not a baboon. the kakoon lives over a high mountain. it looks like a lion, but it wiggles like a tiger." later, he told ak that "it is really cute." and this morning he added that "it is really enormous." but this evening he reiterated that "it is very very small." we are not sure we have the spelling right, but we thought it looked african. if you have any ideas, leave them in the comments!!
